Since July 1, 2022 Indiana has had a permitless carry option: an adult who meets the proper person standard in state law may carry a handgun without a license, openly or concealed. The Indiana State Police still issue the License to Carry a Handgun, and both the five-year and the lifetime license have been fee exempt since 2020 and 2021. Hamilton County is farm ground and subdivision, so most deer hunting here is on small private parcels with landowner permission, and parts of the county fall under deer reduction zone rules where local ordinance allows. Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area to the south and Wilbur Wright Fish and Wildlife Area to the east are the closest public ranges.
Morse Reservoir and Geist Reservoir bracket the county east and west, and the White River corridor north of Noblesville still holds deer and turkey inside the county line.
The Department of Natural Resources runs public shooting ranges on fish and wildlife areas, state forests and reservoir properties across Indiana. Most are free and a few charge a small hourly or daily fee; eye and ear protection are required, users must be 18 or with an adult, and ranges close for weather and renovation, so call the property before you drive.
